Blueberry vs. Bilberry - whats the difference?
First - blueberry is usually grown in fields that are harvested. Bilberry is always wild and it is collected by hand in the forests of Finland.
Second - blueberry is a large berry with a white inside. The bilberry is small and it is thoroughly penetrated by intense blue/purple color. This color is the very antioxidant content of bilberry. In Finland during the time when bilberry sets fruit is a white night and the season when the sun does not set. To raise the ability to protect fruits from the sun's ultraviolet rays poured all day, bilberries store plenty of blue-violet natural pigment called anthocyanins.
The content of anthocyanin contained in blueberry is around 90 mg per 100 g. In contrast, bilberry has been found to contain approximately 370-460 mg, about 4 to 5 times more anthocyanins than common blueberries. Both blueberries and bilberries contain anthocyanins. However, since the anthocyanin extract contained in bilberry is used as a remedy for eye diseases, it can be said that it is more effective than blueberry. It is much more nutritious than its cousin, the blueberry.
The wild Nordic bilberry include:
– higher vitamin C content than in cultivated blueberry
– higher vitamin E content than in cultivated blueberry
– very high content of anthocyanin, multiple times higher than in cultivated blueberry
One tablespoon corresponds almost 1,5 dl of fresh bilberries. High fibre. With no added sugar. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Potassium contributes to normal muscle function, to normal functioning of the nervous system and to the maintenance of normal blood pressure. Enjoy the berry powder every day as part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
